Central Bank of Nigeria eNairaNew

Nigeria's retail CBDC, launched in October 2021. Use has stayed low despite millions of wallets, with transactions estimated at about 22 billion naira. In its Payments System Vision 2028, launched on 1 June 2026, the CBN plans to reposition the eNaira from a consumer app towards government-to-person payments such as salaries, pensions and welfare, with programmable features and open APIs for fintechs.
