A proof of concept led by Bank of Taiwan with eight other Taiwanese banks that tested, in a simulated blockchain environment, interbank trading of tokenised gold. Smart contracts handled synchronised delivery versus payment when a bank placed a gold order, and a digital certificate locked the matching tokenised gold so a holder could later collect physical gold at a Bank of Taiwan branch. The banks also looked at deposit tokens for the cash leg. It was completed in December 2025 with no live service; Bank of Taiwan said it would look at working with market infrastructures next.
