Norges Bank CBDC and tokenisation sandboxNew
Norges Bank's experimental testing for its central bank digital currency study. Two isolated sandbox ledgers (Hyperledger Fabric and Hyperledger Besu), joined by a bridge, carried retail and wholesale CBDC, tokenised bank deposits settled in tokenised reserves, tokenised securities and the full life cycle of a tokenised government bond. DNB took part as a bank in some tests and DNB Carnegie helped design the securities-trading scenarios. The results were published in March 2026; the bank decided a CBDC is not needed now but will keep testing tokenisation with more banks and financial firms. The code is open source.
Proof of concept since 24 Mar 2026[1] — Isolated test environments with no link to production systems, so proof of concept. The source does not date the start of testing; the date is when the results were published. · Reviewed 21d ago
